How Often Should You Replace Your Appliances?
Having to replace appliances at home can always take a huge chunk of your cash, but it’s also possible to predict when these appliances will no longer be working so you can plan for replacement.
Washer/Dryer Machines
A washer and dryer will usually last about 10 – 12 years if you perform the regular maintenance’s on these appliances such as cleaning the lint trap or fixing simple parts on the appliances that are broken.
Oven With Stove Top (Range)
An oven if maintained properly can last up to 15 – 20 years and most ovens now come with a self-cleaning feature, making them easy to maintain so you can get the most life out of it.
Dishwashers
You should be expecting to replace your dishwasher every 8 or 10 years if you want to be able to continue not washing your dishes by hand! These are one of the cheaper appliances,so it is often not that expensive when they have to be replaced.
Refrigerators
Considered to be one of the most important household appliances,you must ensure this unit is always in top working condition! The average refrigerator should be replaced every 12 years to ensure you always have a working one.
Water Heaters
Usually any water heaters that are 10+ years old should be considered for replacement. If you don’t want to replace it yet and the water heater is in a place where a leak won’t cause damage you can leave it until it starts to leak, but this is not recommended at all.
Furnaces
Generally a furnaces average life span is about 18 – 20 years, but you can often tell when it’s time to replace a furnace just by the increase in cost of running it and repairs. This is definitely an appliance you wouldn’t want to stop working in the winter!
Should I Just Let the Appliance Die First?
So it’s starting to make some strange noises, but its sill trying, should you replace it or just let it go until it’s broken? This all depends on what the appliance is and if you can handle not having it for a short period of time.
You will most likely know when it’s the right time to replace your appliances just by looking at it, but it never hurts to prepared!
