Downgrade your cell phone
A lot of people have cell phones with all the features and really have no use for them except for the purpose of distraction. Not to mention that so many places carry free Wi-Fi for anyone to use, but if you really need a cell phone there are plans for 20 dollars a month that give you unlimited texting and free calling on the weekends and evenings. Most people’s cell phone bills are $100+ dollars a month, so doing this you can save $80 a month.
Buy generic brands while grocery shopping and look at weights
Now this one will save you money, especially if you have a family, when you are going down the aisles look at the weight (often in grams) of the product you are going to buy and compare it to the generic or “no name” brand and you will see often the generic brand has more and is cheaper. In that sense it means when you’re buying the “name brand” food you’re getting less for more money which is generally not a good way to budget, especially when you are paying full price. Also when you are picking food out, buy the food that has the most weight and best price and avoid buying things that weigh nothing but cost a lot like “name brand” ice cream bars for example. There really is no difference in quality of these products and by buying “generic” brand items you can save money and not give up taste.
Don’t eat out and pack a lunch
This one is quite obvious, but combine this method with the two above and you will be laughing. This happens a lot and other people recognize it to, but when you’re at work you realize how often people are eating out unless their older, but generally people are going out and spending $10+ on a meal 5 days a week during lunch plus buying groceries and then going out to a restaurant for supper and drinks. If you just stop eating out for lunch you will save another $200+ dollars a month ($10/day x 5 days/week =$50 a week spent on lunches alone).
(Not as relevant because you cant do it all year, but still worth a mention)
Cancel your plates in spring until fall
This is another fantastic way to save money however it does require a bit of effort and dedication. Now I know this one is different if you don’t have somewhere to store your vehicle, but imagine the money you save with this. If you have a job you can ride a bike to get where you are going to save which will save you around $100 dollars just from not having to pay for your license plates each month and not to mention gas for driving around, you could almost buy a brand new bike with the money you save in the first month! It is also a great form of exercise you get to do every day now for free.
At this rate, you should have enough saved up to go on a 2-week vacation to Mexico in 4 months!
Happy saving’s everybody!
